Saturday, March 9, 2002: Walking Around the Ship for the First Time
With the ship being so large, as long as three football fields and even further, you could walk for days and not see the entire ship. Below are a few shots from the first day as we left port.

The ship has three main stair cases which you visit at least 100 times a day. Of course you can take the elevators, but you need to walk off the abundance of food that you've been taking in any ways.

The Atrium is interesting as the four glass elevators go up and down. Passengers are amazed at the size of the atrium.

We always enjoy the classical music that the ship has to offer. We stop to listen to the string trio as they welcome the passengers on board.

Although the Casino isn't a place we spend time, you have to walk through it to get to the other side of the ship.
The David's Supper Club is an upscale, alternative reservations only restaurant located at the top of the soaring nine-deck high atrium. It is housed under a red-tinted glass dome that forms the forward portion of the Carnival Pride's massive winged funnel. The restaurant sports a full-size replica of the famous Michelangelo sculpture, "David." All Brooklyn knows is there is a large naked man who is "gross."
The gym was elegant, but will never be used by us. We'll stick to going up and down the stairs to work off the food.

One of the best parts about Carnival are the large slides. There was a time when the kids couldn't go down them because of their height. Now we can't keep them off of them.

This is one of four pool areas. This one can become enclosed in bad weather as the roof closes overhead. The Lido Deck pool area features a grand mural of Botticelli’s "Birth of Venus." The pools are named after Apollo and Poseidon, and bronze sculptures of the Greek gods on pedestals are located between the pools.

Walking around the deck is a long trip. When you walk around, you are surprised at how you actually don't see that many people moving around. The ship is so large everyone gets spread out.

Camp Carnival... The kids are still loving it. However, the kids are older and won't spend that much time in the actual room. As they move up in age, they spend more time around the ship doing activities with Camp Carnival's staff. Although Brooklyn wasn't quite old enough (she just turned 8), they let her go with Preston in the 9-12 year old age group. That group had most of their activities in the ship's Disco. The best part is they could both sign themselves in and out whenever they wanted.

The entrance to the Taj Mahal is elegant as gems are embedded into the white marble.

Inside the Taj Mahal is where the Broadway Shows take place. The show lounge is filled with intricate Indian designs, elephant friezes and stonework.

Okay... This was cool. The staircase we are about to descend is surrounded by butterflies incased in glass. There must have been thousands of them. Downstairs, in the lounge, the same treatment. The lounge is named appropriately, The Butterfly Lounge.

Carnival Pride had its own wedding chapel. Maybe next year, for Greg and Susan's 20th Anniversary, they can redo their vows. Greg will do anything to get on another cruise.

At last... Technology. The Internet Cafe will provide Greg and Susan with all the communications that they'll need to keep their jobs going smoothly. Susan especially used the Internet Cafe to keep up on a large project which was taking place at the school district. She actually kept big problems from happening.

The shops are all located in one area of the ship and is similar to walking through the shops at Ceasar's Palace in Las Vegas.
After settling down and heading east to the Bahamas, Susan spends time finding out the latest on her huge school project of having the entire school rewired with new technology. Brooklyn waits patiently so we can visit the ice cream machine afterwards.
Of course the neatest thing for the kids is the bed that drops down from the ceiling. The kids had to take turns each night with the last night being decided by a coin toss.

We had a few problems with the room steward leaving the bed down during the day but Greg just kept shutting it and the room steward finally got the idea.
