Once the movie ended, we had to rush to get across Tempe as our hour at the park had been eaten up by the problems at the IMAX theater. Instead of eating at the park and having birthday cake, the kids ate their sack lunches outside of the ice skating rink and we postponed the cake until returning home.

Excited to get inside the rink to begin the ice skating adventure, sack lunches were gobbled down. Once inside, Mom helped get the right size skates for each person.

Glad to have all of the help we had, Kathy, mom, dad, and grandma all worked to help get skates laced up on correctly.

And then, we stepped onto the ice. Wow, how wonderful everyone did. Even with a few falls, there were no tears, and almost everyone was successfully skating on their own within thirty minutes.

Is that Greg helping the girls, or are those the girls helping Greg?

Note from webmaster...
That's me helping the girls.

Even young Analyse was on her own skating circles around the rink before we knew it.

Always the ham, dad loved having fun with all of the kids. Here he demonstrates what hockey players go through when they hit the glass after being pushed by the opponent... the opponent being the girls. Kathy and grandma stayed off the ice taking pictures and providing a heaven of rest for the kids to rejuvenate.

Though dad was sure mom wasn't as good of a skater as she claimed to be, her Metro Center days came back and being on the ice was like riding a bike--it just comes right back to you, even after 22 years.

Preston and Carli definitely took to the ice the best. Both good roller bladers, they were speeding around the ice before we knew it.

Of course, once they all thought they knew what they were doing, it was time to clean the ice and change directions.

Brooklyn, too, was moving easily around the rink, having fun and keeping up with the best of them.

Analyse was sure dad still needed her help.

Towards the end of the session, Preston was even skating backwards a little.

Even though it was a lot of fun, skating was definitely a lot more work than mom remembered. Two and a half hours may not have been enough for the kids, but the adults weren't disappointed when time us up.
